Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a very common musculoskeletal problem affecting golfers of all ages and skill levels. Studies have shown that low back conditions account for approximately 25% of all golf injuries although incidence rates of between 18.2% to as high as 54% have been reported. (Sugaya H, Tsuchiya A, Moriya H. Cabri and colleagues, in their review of golf-related injuries, reported that injury to the lower back represented the most common musculoskeletal complaint experienced by both amateur and professional golf players

Research conducted by the Titleist Performance Institute suggests that the most common lower back injury inducing swing mechanics include

• S Posture
• Reverse spine angle
• Early extension
• Restricted Right Leg Follow through
• Reverse ‘C’ Finish
